Dear friends and supporters,

UCLA was my dream school. I knew the cost of college was high, even at a
public university, but I thought student loans were just a part of the
process. I did not anticipate the financial burden these loans would have
on my future.

*You probably felt the same way. That is why we are hosting student loan
workshops to help our supporters understand their rights.*

The first six months after graduation were bliss, but I was soon in shock
when my first student loan bill arrived in the mail. There it was. My debt
staring back at me. It was overwhelming. To be totally honest, it was
frightening.

At the time, I was employed as a waitress. I was working hard to find a new
career at a non-profit and my husband was still finishing his degree. An
extra bill of $500 a month was something my family just couldn’t afford. There
had to be another way.

*On May 19th, I am joining the rest of the Student Debt Crisis team to
share information about federal repayment plans, Public Service Loan
Forgiveness, and options for people who are struggling to keep up. *

*RSVP for an online workshop at 11:00 AM ET (8 AM PT)

Days before my first $500 payment was due, I began working at Student Debt
Crisis. It wasn’t long before I found out about repayment options that were
available to me. I contacted my loan servicer and immediately enrolled in a
federal income-driven repayment plan.

Now, my monthly payment is $60 per month, and it’s affordable. A little bit
of awareness and access to accurate information saved me from making a
decision that could have hurt my family’s financial stability, wellbeing,
and future.

If you are feeling burdened or overwhelmed, you can take action. Join one
of our no-cost informative workshops to better understand your
