Last weekend I had the opportunity to go my first AFP conference. While I was there I attended workshops that gave pointers on fundraising and I was able to connect with professional in the field from all over the globe. One of my favorite workshops was held by Kishshana Palmer-Recruiting Diverse Professionals to Your Fundraising Team. She talked about why diversity is important and shared with us the short film, A Peacock in the Land of Penguins. My favorite quote from the film,“Sometimes our differences allow us to contribute what others can’t.” I took away from this workshop that dominant group talk can limit us in more ways than one. Focusing on inclusion is important after all,“the party isn’t fun if you don’t have any music to dance to that you like.”-Kishshana Palmer
