Student Involvement and the Cross Cultural and Gender Center are excited
that Gina Rodriguez will be at Fresno State on *Friday, April 28th at
7:00PM in the Satellite Student Union. *We would like to invite you to join
us for this exclusive event to be part of the “Social Justice Leadership
Experience” with other Fresno State students, faculty, and staff. *This is
a free event, and you must present your Fresno State ID.* You can pick up
your free ticket at the USU Information Center (now located downstairs) or
at the CCGC office in Thomas Building. The program includes a welcome
presentation that will focus on talking about the importance of social
justice, diversity, and leadership, which are all very important values
within our campus community. After the welcome, we will have a Fresno State
student or faculty member introduce Gina Rodriguez. Gina will then speak
for the remainder of the program, which will be followed by Q&A and a
closing.

Gina Rodriguez is most recognized for her leading role in the show “Jane
the Virgin,” for which she received a Golden Globe award in 2015 and was
also a nominee last year. However, she is also highly recognized for her
outspoken advocacy about diversity, the representation of Latinx in the
media, anti-bullying, and mental illness. Gina is of Puerto Rican decent,
and the youngest of three daughters. She has openly discussed the pressures
of being a Hollywood actress and battling a Thyroid disease. Gina Rodriguez
has used her celebrity as a platform to give voice to various social
justice issues, but is also a very active member through several other
roles. Gina serves as a Board member of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and
was honored with the Young Humanitarian award in 2016 for her involvement
in philanthropic efforts. She has also established the We Will Foundation,
which aims to empower young women in addition to providing education and
scholarship funding in the arts.

We are very excited to have Gina Rodriguez coming to our Fresno State
campus and hope that you will join us to hear her talk about her story, her
role as a female artist, and her representation in the Media as a
Latina. Let me know if you have any other questions by emailing me at
amreyes@mail.fresnostate.edu. We hope you are able to attend! 🙂
