The guests that came and spoke to us at Arte Americas were very inspirational. The responsibility that they take for their fellow man is impressive and admirable. I felt like I connected with Darius and Kay the most because of their passion for the community. Mrs. DeYoung brought up the idea of our community being beyond our immediate area, and that I was impressed with. Cumulatively they all had great passion for helping our fellow man and the idea that with success comes responsibility. It was inspiring to hear them talk about the reasons why they help the community and what they see as important issues. Kay’s passion for education and the arts is something’s that I find very important and I am glad that she is out there fighting for it. Her idea of challenge grants was something I have never heard before and I think it’s a great idea. You can raise so much more money if you challenge the organization to reach out in other directions. Also, I feel like it holds the organization more responsible for what they are using the funds for, because they have more people involved. Darius’ passion for the world and his feelings of responsibility for not only his community, but his extended community, was inspiring. Because himself and his family are immigrants they have a strong pride for our country, but still feel a responsibility to carry on what our country has started in their country of origin. For this I was very impressed. His idea of keeping up with what our country is doing oversees is something many people do not think about. There are many places that our country affects around the world and we should be concerned about them as well. All in all I felt like it was a great eye opening panel, and I am very grateful to the speakers who came to share their lives with us. It’s not always easy to come out and speak of your philanthropic giving, but I believe it is important to share with our community and the world what we are doing to make it better. People need to know that people care. It was a very inspiring evening. Amanda B
